Dr Francesco Campo contributes to the day-to-day organisation of the EMA programme, provides academic support, teaches academic and research skills, and coordinates the rolling seminar in International relations.
Francesco holds a PhD in Social Science and Business from Roskilde University, an MA in Intercultural Studies, and a BA in International Studies on Cooperation and Development from the University of Turin.
His doctoral project was part of a broader Carlsberg Foundation-funded research project that explored and compared forms of opposition to populist parties across Europe. His research focused on modes of opposition to populist parties in Italy and Spain. He has also contributed to research on the emergence of protests against green transition projects in Denmark.
His research interests centre on civil society mobilisation, democratic engagement, the mainstreaming of far-right politics and the relationship between pro-democratic actors and democratic challengers at both the national and international levels. In his teaching, Francesco draws on his multidisciplinary background, incorporating perspectives from social movement studies, international relations, populism studies, as well as philosophical and artistic works.
