A total of 67 alumni registered for the GCA Careers Track 2024/2025. Participants joined from 7 out of the 8 regions of the Global Campus, including Europe (37), Latin America and the Caribbean (8), the Caucasus (6), Africa (4), South East Europe (4), Asia Pacific (4), and the Arab World (4). An average of 13 participants per workshop took part, which allowed an interactive framework.
The workshops, like in previous years, were hosted by Niamh Walsh, a professional careers advisor and Global Campus alumna based in the United Kingdom. Drawing on her expertise, Niamh guided participants through five sessions covering key aspects of career-building:
- Building a Career in Human Rights: Strategies for entering the field and creating a meaningful career path.
- Crafting and Enhancing CVs and Cover Letters: Practical tips for presenting skills and experiences effectively.
- Mastering Job Interviews: Advice on preparing for and excelling in interviews.
- Networking: Effective networking techniques and the importance of ‘being out there’.
- Interactive Q&A Session: An interactive workshop among alumni to exchange expertise, ask questions, and receive tailored advice.
The workshops offered more than just presentations. Participants were able to submit their CVs for personalised feedback from Niamh and ask job interview questions to have them answered in order to gain practical experience. These activities provided valuable insights and helped them refine their professional skills. An alum commented on the CV and cover letters workshop saying: “It was very useful! The presentation in the first half was very clear with great advice. Going through each of our CVs in the second half was also a great idea!”.
The workshops also created a space for alumni to connect with peers from around the world, fostering a sense of community and encouraging professional collaboration. Many participants noted that networking with fellow graduates was one of the most rewarding aspects of the workshops. Feeling a sense of community among other global campus alumni.
The GCA Careers Track workshops reflect the Global Campus’s commitment to supporting its graduates as they transition into the professional world. By offering tools, feedback, and connections, the workshops help alumni navigate their career paths with confidence. “The whole series made me feel more confident about finding a job, as it provided valuable insights on how to do it”. “This was brilliant, genuinely extremely helpful.” stated a third one.
As the Global Campus celebrates another successful round of workshops, it looks forward to seeing the achievements of its alumni in the future. Their efforts and successes continue to highlight the importance of fostering a strong and supportive alumni network. For recent graduates, the GCA Careers Track workshops provide an excellent opportunity to receive guidance, connect with others, and take meaningful steps in their careers.
